Artist Bio
Darcy Kummerow is Senior from Chicago getting her BFA in Dance Performance at Ball State University. On the Ball State stage, you have seen her in original productions such as Reimagining Mary, classical dance productions such as Cinderella and The Nutcracker, and musicals such as Damn Yankees and Gypsy. Post- graduation she would love to pursue dance captain roles and choreography opportunities as well as performance. She has experience with choreographing for all different ages. She choreographed American Idiot on Ball State's mainstage and she also choreographed at the Muncie Civic Theatre for Matilda where she worked with kids, teens and adults. She has experience as a movement coach for Winnie the Pooh on Ball State's mainstage. Thank you to her family for their love and support, she would be nowhere without you.

Artist Statement
I find that storytelling is my goal within my work. My theatrical background has created a fascination with behavior and natural reaction which I try to exude in my creations. I try to find curiosity within my movement by living in the beauty of simplicity and stillness. My movement is driven by music, and I am willing to explore the definition of music in dance by experimenting with spoken word. I strive to create a safe and intimate environment. Vulnerability is the backbone to my work, which attempts to create intimate settings and intimate movement. I revel in the emotional ties of a piece, these include ties to my life and the effect of the emotional ties to someone else’s life.
I want to make my art a safe place for honest reaction. All are welcomed, appreciated, challenged, supported and free to explore their true self from their honest reaction to the experience they partake in. Dance is therapeutic for everyone involved: performers and audience. I want to emphasize the importance of this. Discussion is a key part to acquiring knowledge of dance and the boundaries we try to push. I want to poke and prod that discussion towards female empowerment or lack there of, life struggles and societal norms compared to the ideals we all seek.
